New Social-Emotional Curriculum for FESD

We added a new social-emotional curriculum this year at all four school sites, and want to take a minute to tell you about it! Check it out👇👇👇!

Fortuna Elementary School District is committed to building an environment of kindness and respect where every student feels safe and has a strong sense of belonging. To assist in these efforts, we have adopted a district-wide social-emotional learning curriculum called Character Strong. This curriculum is an evidence-based solution to support whole child success and is proven to positively impact belonging, mental health, and engagement. In the curriculum, students will experience a blend of character development skills like kindness, respect, responsibility, gratitude, empathy, perseverance, honesty, cooperation, courage, creativity, commitment, forgiveness, patience, humility, and selflessness, along with anti-bullying methods, including communication and resilience.

In addition to adopting the curriculum, FESD has dedicated time at every site to teach these character-building skills explicitly. Each school site (FMS, TTMS, WES, AES) has a team of teachers working with the administration to support this process and ensure its success.
